Our story How to Fall Off a Cliff Straight Into Business
Maybe it all started with one seriously bad fall. In Tisá, spring 2005. The Gigant Overhang. Rope. Me. Then silence and a bang that echoed more in my head than high up on the rock. I climbed as I always had, but this time fate sent me into a free fall and an unexpected break instead of a view. What exactly happened is described in the article Gigant Overhang, but in short: I survived. And realized I had more lives than a cat — plus a strong will not to waste them.
After my accident, the then head of our climbing club had a sense of humor — he suggested turning the goat into a gardener and recommended I become a climbing instructor. So in autumn 2005, I started a year-long course with the Czech Mountaineering Association to become an instructor, and a year later I was the lead trainer at our climbing school. I loved it. The mountains got even deeper under my skin, along with the desire to create something. With people, for people, outdoors, inside. And differently.
Then came 2007 and with it a real challenge – a two-month expedition to the 8,000-meter peaks Gasherbrum I and Gasherbrum II in Pakistan. My first truly big adventure. The first real encounter with what it means when “there’s no room for shortcuts.” And the challenge of quickly earning enough for this “expensive vacation.” It cost me a quarter of a million, so I had to hustle fast, but it taught me more than any course, conference, or job ever did.
At that time, I was stuck in a job I hated and knew I couldn’t stay. I didn’t want to just survive—I wanted to live fully. Moving, free, with my hands busy, not in my pockets. So after thirteen years, I handed in my resignation and opened the gate to a world of education and courses.
Out of this mix, HOTROCK was born.

We went for something a bit more “unusual” and “action-packed.” We chose a survival teambuilding in the wild. With a mix of fear and excitement, we set off for six hours in the area around Tiské stěny – climbing hills, crawling into a narrow cave, starting a fire, rappelling off a cliff, shooting a bow.
